Installing Window Film

Window film insulates your home by trapping an extra layer of air between the film and window, and by preventing cold air from entering your home through cracks in your window seal, sash, or frame.

To install:

  1. clean the frame around your window
  2. apply double-stick tape (included in our window/patio door kits)
  3. remove tape backing
  4. measure and cut the film to size
  5. apply the film to the tape
  6. shrink with a hair dryer
  7. trim excess film

Installing Patio Door Film

Patio door film insulates your home by trapping an extra layer of air between the film and door, and by preventing cold air from entering your home through cracks in your door seals or frame.

To install:

  1. clean the frame around your patio door
  2. apply double-stick tape (included in our window/patio door kits)
  3. remove tape backing
  4. measure and cut the film to size
  5. apply the film to the tape
  6. shrink with a hair dryer
  7. trim excess film

Installing Foam Tape on a Window

Foam tape replaces or improves the seal around doors and windows, preventing drafts.

To install:

  1. clean and measure where new seal will be applied (typically along the bottom edge of a window sash)
  2. cut the foam tape to length
  3. apply the foam tape to the window frame, filling the width to prevent air leakage (Upon unrolling, adhesive will already be exposed on some tapes. Remove backing if not.)
  4. remove any remaining backing on the tape

Installing a Door Set (Top and Sides)

A door set (jamb) prevents drafts and moisture from passing through small cracks between the top and sides of your door and door frame when the door is closed.

To install:

  1. remove old hardware and seal any holes
  2. measure vertical space for the new hardware
  3. cut to length (sides only)
  4. close door and place new hardware (only sides for now), making sure the seal is tight
  5. drill through provided holes
  6. insert screws
  7. measure top space for hardware (slightly smaller than the frame, now, due to the new side hardware)
  8. cut to length (top piece)
  9. place top hardware (again, with door closed)
  10. drill through provided holes
  11. insert screws

Installing a Door Threshold

A door threshold prevents drafts and moisture from passing between the bottom of your door and the door frame when the door is closed.

To install:

  1. measure space for the threshold
  2. cut threshold to length, leaving enough extra rubber seal to fill the gaps
  3. put threshold in place (verify that the door will seal correctly when closed)
  4. drill through provided holes
  5. insert screws

Installing a Door Bottom

A door bottom (sweep) prevents drafts from passing under interior doors.

To install:

  1. measure the width of your door
  2. cut the door bottom to length
  3. slide the bottom onto the door
  4. close the door and drill through provided holes
  5. insert screws
