Winter

Winter, the toughest season on weather stripping. There’s snow, salt, ice, wind, cold temperatures—it’s enough to make the fins on the Climaloc® door bottoms stand on end.

Winter, the toughest season on weather stripping. There’s snow, salt, ice, wind, cold temperatures—it’s enough to make the fins on the Climaloc® door bottoms stand on end. But that’s okay. Climaloc® products are well-equipped to handle whatever conditions winter brings, and if you’ve been following these posts since the summer, you’ve already decked the halls of your home with Climaloc® products and you’re just about ready to sit back with a hot cup of cocoa. There are just a few odds and ends you should tend to that are critically important during the frosty season:

1) Cover Your Air Conditioner

Summer is long gone, and you won’t be using the your conditioner anytime soon, so a high-quality air conditioner cover will go a long way to protect your unit from ice, dirt, and debris that’ll wear and damage its inner workings. Climaloc® offers several vinyl coverings to keep your air conditioning unit well-sheltered through the winter season. For extra-harsh conditions, our Heavy-Duty Air Conditioner Cover is the product of choice.

And for window air conditioners, you can use Air Conditioner Weatherseal products by Climaloc®. These will seal out the cold air in the winter and hot air in the summer, ensuring your unit doesn’t overwork itself. Plus, the properties of the products reduce vibration and noise, a useful way to mitigate the movement and sounds caused by the air conditioner.

2) Plug Your Outlets

Ever notice there’s a little breeze coming from your light switches or power outlets? These are other small areas that should be sealed to help regulate the temperature in your home. Cover these often-neglected switch holes and outlets with these Climaloc® products— air loss will be controlled, and the covers will be invisible after installation. Climaloc® CF12105 is a useful product for insulating multiple rooms at once, especially rooms frequented by children. It includes six electrical outlet covers, two switch insulators for small or contemporary switches, and 10 safety caps to cover the electrical outlet openings.

3) Protect Your Outdoor Faucets

You’ve likely shut off all the water supply headed to your home’s outdoor piping, but it’s best to also cover the faucets so that no moisture from outside gets in. Water will freeze in the winter and could damage, or worse, burst your pipes as it expands. The Climaloc® Faucet Cover will fit most standard outdoor faucets and protect them from frost exposure.

4) Insulate Your Outdoor Pipes

While you’re covering your outdoor faucets, wrap your home’s exposed pipes with pipe insulation wrap to protect them from freezing. This will reduce energy loss and prevent condensation from collecting on their surfaces. As with your outdoor faucets, if any moisture finds its way into your exposed pipes, it could freeze and damage them. Don’t take that chance — Climaloc® products are cost effective and easy to install.
